Czechoslovakian New-wave, day 3
Vera Chytilová - 1966 - Czechoslovakia - 75' - Czech, English subtitles
When everything is being spoiled - What then? We'll Be spoiled too!
Banned and censored upon release, Daisies (1966) is an iconic film of the Czechoslovak new wave that cannot go unseen by anyone with even the slightest interest in film.
In a hedonistic adventure of social impropriety two sisters play with their food, men, and the audience. With a nihilistic philosophy and norm-breaking behavior the sisters, Marie and Marie, gladly destroy everything - including themselves. Whether they are hopping aimlessly around in a field or Marie is crashing her sister's dates with older men, tricking them on trains to who-knows-where, these girls follow their own path to entertain themselves in a society they judge as spoiled and tedious.
Through reality-bending collages, psychedelic colors and ever-changing visuals this film is an experience that will never leave you bored.
