Fertile Memory is the first full-length film shot within the disputed West Bank “Green line,” as well as the debut feature of another prominent name in Palestinian film: Michel Khleifi. It blends narrative and documentary to paint a portrait of two Palestinian women: Farah Hatoum, a widow living with her children and grandchildren, and Sahar Khelifeh, a novelist from the West Bank. The film shows their daily life and highlights their different personalities. Their differing opinions and lives unfold on a common background of Palestinians under Israeli rule, and of women in a men-dominated society. Despite their contrasts, the two women share the same fight for freedom and dignity.
