Join poetess, artist and chanteuse Eleanor Flowers in her debut gallery poetry performance and art exhibition this February 15th at Hos Arne. A unique performance that incorporates elements of poetry, music and visual art, Shopping for God is a coming-of-age tale of a girl’s restless search for faith and meaning. Through spoken and sung word, giant collaged self-portraits and woodcut sculptures, Eleanor Flowers invites her audience to step inside her world of poetry and takes spectators on a journey from girlhood to womanhood. Shopping for God will carry the public through the thorny issues that marked many young women’s experience of growing up in the 90s: unrealistic beauty standards, a degree of absence of feminist thought and a naïve attitude towards the degradation of the environment. Shopping for God is meant as a cathartic poetry performance, allowing the artist to explore difficult questions around consumer culture, beauty, faith, virtue and sexual liberation and contemplating motherhood in a climate and environmental crisis. There will be live music in collaboration with guest cellist Wei Ting Zeng, there will be fashion, there will be art, there will be screaming and above all, there will be poetry. Doors open at 7pm and performance starts sharp at 7.30pm. Please do not film during the show but feel free to take photos of the artworks before and after the performance.
