'Fjernsynsbro: New Era' is an experimental, hybrid documentry film from a duo of Russian and Norwegian directors that transcends the boundaries of documentary and fiction in an effort to explore how borders define and shape human contact.
During the pandemic, filmmakers wanted to explore how COVID-19 formed new means of isolation between the two neighbouring countries. By chance they stumbled upon the historic Norwegian/Soviet Union broadcast from 1988 called 'Fjernsynsbro' – the idea of using this unique archive as a starting point to create a piece of art that would reflect on isolation consequances.
The artists re-created a new film set for the broadcasting talk show which took place in Kirkenes and Nikel as a part of Barents Spektakel 2022 festival.
The talk show fell on the first days of Russian full-scale invasion in Ukraine. That was unexpected and horrible plot twist in a whole project which completely changed whole story and people's lives on both sides of the border.
