A Weather Eye exhibition looks at art inspired by the weather and highlights how artists use colour, form and technique to remind us of the physical qualities of weather as well as how it can provide a metaphor for our thoughts and feelings.

In Scotland, the unpredictable weather has always directly affected the way we live our lives and this is reflected in our language. There are myriad Scots words to describe the weather and we have matched a number of these to works on display, proving their variety!

Today, increasingly extreme, often devastating weather conditions are a direct result of climate change and it is more urgent than ever that we work together to make positive change. Art can help us to make sense of global issues that can seem overwhelming and beyond our control and it can help visualise the weight of our feelings. Art can also provide documentary evidence of the effects of climate change on our planet, while simultaneously celebrating the rich and bountiful earth that we strive to protect.

A Weather Eye: Art Inspired by the Weather from Dundee's Fine Art Collection is free and opens at The McManus on Saturday 9 November 2024.

Opening Hours Monday to Saturday, 10am-5pm, and Sunday 12.30-4.30pm. Last entry is 15 minutes before gallery closing time.
