Lydgate Brass Band are a village band in the heart of Saddleworth which is the Mecca of brass banding in the North West, most villages have a band. Lydgate started in the early 1970’s originally as a youth band as apart from the local music centre there wasn’t a band for youngsters at the time. Over time quite a few of the parents decided to have a go at playing brass instruments and ultimately joined the band so dropped the youth element and became a band for all ages. Quite a few of the original parents who helped set up the band all those years ago still play with us today.
