Battle of the Folk Bands

Championing Scottish traditional music, and giving a platform to its finest emerging talent, the Battle of the Folk Bands is an annual highlight for Celtic Connections audiences. The popular event sees great new bands competing for the prize of a coveted gig at the following year’s festival.

Our 2024 Battle of the Folk Bands was closely fought by some outstanding acts before Megan MacDonald, Chloë Bryce & Calum McIlroy won the title. A folk trio based in Glasgow. Hailing from Lairg, Tain, and Aberdeenshire respectively, they blend fiddle, accordion, guitar, and their voices to present an array of dynamic tunes, and delicate songs.

The Battle of the Folk Bands is always an unmissable showcase of the best up-and-coming talent in the genre, and previous years’ winners include leading acts such as Dosca and Eabhal – so watch this space for our reveal on who’s competing this year!
