A middle-aged man somewhat down on his luck inherits a Paris apartment and plans to solve his financial woes by selling it. He discovers,to his dismay, that the elderly woman living there with he daughter has, under French law, lifetime habitation rights and is not about to give them up. He has nowhere to go and so she invites him to stay. this results in some unexpected revelations and developments. ​
