Choreographies of Stimming

Detaljer

Neurodiversity is the natural variation of all human brains and minds. Stimming is repetitive actions to self-regulate, self-stimulate, or self-soothe, bringing oneself into balance. Stimming is an important part of neurodivergent embodiment, of bodily being with a different mind. In this part performance, part (not boring or confusing) lecture, neuroqueer choreographer Aby Watson demonstrates her sensory-seeking practice of stimprovisation whilst riffing on neurodivergence, neuronormativity, and stimming through a choreography of self-regulation that unfolds in the here and now. Expect a loop-like, tactile, rhythmic and repetitive performance of stimulating voice, body, and object that dives in with playful sensoriality and the true passion of a special interest. And hey, maybe you learn something new too? Win win. ‘Choreographies of Stimming’ is held in a relaxed environment. It manifests Aby’s interest in non-neuronormative knowledge exchange, and is an experiment with neurodivergent-centred and multi-sensory modes of academic presentation. Made with support from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and The British Council, this performance lecture was first performed at Británico Cultural for Encuentro de Artes Inclusivos in Lima, Peru in October 2023.
