Iiro Rantalas HEL Trio

After a decade and a half, Finnish pianist Iiro Rantala returns to his roots. This is the first time since the breakup of his infamous Trio Töykeät in 2008 that Iiro performs his music in a classic piano trio. With Trio Töykeät, he turned the European jazz world upside down and the group was considered the hottest thing on the continent alongside the Esbjörn Svensson Trio.

Since the band’s break up, Iiro has been searching for the perfect new trio. The search has now come to an end with the fabulous HEL Trio. He is joined by two congenial improvisers and partners - British bassist Conor Chaplin, a member of the Mercury Prize-nominated band Dinosaur, and Swedish-Norwegian drummer Anton Eger, one of the most colourful and original drumming personalities on the European jazz scene. Those who know Rantala, the classically-trained master pianist with a mischievous streak, know that they can expect virtuosity with catchy and comprehensible melodies and plenty of surprising twists and turns.
