Having lit up some of the region’s most iconic landmarks, experience ‘Illuminated Sheep’ in the Cathedral’s historic nave!
Created by artist Deepa Mann-Kler, the flock of 30 life-sized sheep was inspired by the Lindisfarne Gospels’ themes of light and pilgrimage. Their travels have seen them lit up in bright colours at some of the region’s most iconic locations, including Alnwick Garden, Bamburgh Castle, Hexham Abbey, Vindolanda and Woodhorn Museum, as well as further from home at the Bradford is Lit light festival.
Across three evenings, immerse yourself in the ‘ewe-nique’ experience of getting up close with the sheep. While here, you can enjoy refreshments in Café 16, watch short films, and engage in ‘baa-brilliant’ sheep-themed craft activities!
‘Illuminated Sheep’ was commissioned by Northumberland County Council and developed and managed by Queen’s Hall Arts and the Hexham Culture Network. It was part of the Cultural Programme of Hexham High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) and funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority, now the new North East Combined Authority.
