Hailed as one of the most prodigious guitarists of his generation and in thehighest category of improvising musicians(New Yorker), Julian Lage has spent more than a decade exploring the myriad strains of American musical history via impeccable technique, free association and the spirit of infinite possibility. A child prodigy, Lage picked up guitar at the age of five and was performing in public a year later. At the grand old age of 8 he was playing with Carlos Santana, Pat Metheny, Kenny Werner, Toots Thielemans, Martin Taylor, David Grismanthe list goes on. It resulted in Lage being the subject of the Academy Award-nominated 1996 documentary film Jules at Eight. Fast forward to today, Lage is signed to the legendary Blue Note label, and along with his world-renowned solo work, he regularly collaborates with the likes of Gary Burton and John Zorn, and has duo projects with Nels Cline, Chris Eldridge and Fred Hersch. His 2024 album, Speak To Me, represents some of his most ambitious music to date. We are treated to an almost cinema-like approach to the history of American music crossing the wires between gospel hymn and rural blues, California singer-songwriter sunshine and skronky jazz. It is the American songbook in widescreen. We are delighted to present the debut Belfast performance from Julian Lage at the The Empire Music Hall. Do not miss.
