A gala concert celebrating 110 years of the Junior Department of London’s Royal Academy of Music. It will showcase the Junior Academy Symphony Orchestra in the complete score of Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé alongside performances from the Senior Chamber Choir, Brass Ensemble, Recorder Ensemble, and Senior Strings Chamber Orchestra.
Ravel’s groundbreaking ballet was written in 1915, the year of Junior Academy’s inception, and the rest of the programme is also made up of works with a particular connection to that year. The exception is a new work, Scriabin’s Fever Dream, written especially for this occasion for our recorder ensemble by David Gordon. Scriabin died in 1915.
Junior Academy is home to a vibrant programme of performance and learning every Saturday for talented young musicians aged 12–18. Fostering student wellbeing in an atmosphere of teamwork, inclusivity and diversity, we are committed to creating an environment where financial hardship is not a barrier to entry.
