The piece comprises 30 variations on an enchanting melody. Over a meditative hour, the music undergoes transformations through diverse time signatures, textures, and harmonies. Eventually, the initial aria reappears, but with an entirely fresh and striking character. After experiencing the melody reshaped in countless ways, the original simplicity is a profound and mystical musical experience!
