In this full day workshop, you will learn the art of rag rugging, a traditional technique that turns rags into beautiful, textural homewares. With a rich history, rag rugging is a skill that allows you to upcycle scraps into tactile pieces of art. During this session, you will learn how to use the rag rug equipment, how to work with the hessian, how to choose and prepare materials, and begin a rug or smaller project (depending on how ambitious youre feeling). You will be provided with all the materials you need during the class, but as the charm of rag rugging is often in the memories attached to old clothes, you're welcome to bring along any of your own clothing youd like to incorporate, particularly if you have clothing with sentimental value that you'd like to use. Please note you will need to cut this up during workshop.Hot drinks and water are included and will be available throughout the day, but we ask that you bring a packed lunch with you. The workshop ticket also provides access to Shibden Hall on the day.
No experience necessary, suitable for teenagers and adults. Under 18s must be accompanied by another paying participant over the age of 18.
Please note this event will be held in our Education Room, which is located on the first floor of Shibden Hall. Please contact museum.learning@calderdale.gov.uk to discuss any access needs.
