Reawakening the Replica

You're invited to Reawakening The Replica, a chance to marvel at the replica Locomotion No.1 and the newly built Stockton & Darlington Railway coal wagon and Experiment passenger coach.

From 2 12 January, the replica train will be on display in the historic Grade II listed Carriage Works at Hopetown Darlington, kicking off the celebrations for the bicentenary festival.

The exhibition, which is free to visit, will look at the history of the replica and the plans for its use in the S&DR200 festival throughout 2025.

Steve Davies MBE from the International Railway Heritage Company will host a Q&A session from 10.30am on Saturday 4th January where you can find out all you need to know about the replica.

On Wednesday 8 January at 10.30am, you can join a Curators Tour with our Collections Engagement manager. The tour has been extended to include a visit to the replica. Check out our Talks and Tours page for further information.

On Saturday 4 January you can combine your visit to the Replica Locomotion No.1 with a visit to Darlington Locomotive Work's workshop and the newly opened 1861 Shed! Marvel at the progress of the P2 Class No.2007 Prince of Wales, before heading to the 1861 Shed, home to the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group to see restoration projects in real time.
