Frederick Douglass: Exploring Music, Justice and Protest
In this captivating lecture/recital, Ruth Naomi Floyd delves into the intersection of music, justice, and protest in Frederick Douglass's life and work. Frederick Douglass, an abolitionist, orator, author, reformer, women’s rights advocate, and statesman, was also a creative. Playing music, singing, writing, and reciting poetry inspired and fueled his activism.
As part of her wider project looking at Douglass’s connections to Dundee, Floyd will draw from her extensive research, musical expertise, and a collection of musical excerpts from her piece ‘Frederick Douglass Jazz Works’, to tell a captivating story about Douglass’ fight against slavery and his advocacy for justice.
