Separated by Millennia - Journeys Festival 2024

Visitors are invited to follow the story of a nomadic tribe who guide human evolution and preserve biodiversity. Inspired by navigation and time reckoning methods native to the Arabian peninsula, this work challenges hegemonic structures relating to time and ecology.

Separated by Millennia is a body of work exploring notions of survival, time, ancestry and ecology. Through a series of paintings, viewers are invited to follow the story of a mythical clan of temporal nomads who developed time travel capabilities.

Separated by Millennia is supported by Freelands Foundation and co-commissioned by the Arab British Centre and Shubbak Festival, curated by Jessica El Mal.

Sarah Al-Sarraj is a British-Iraqi visual artist based between Leicester and London.
