Spirited Away x Four Last Songs

The Cruahcan Court Orchestra launches with a fabulous concert that links magic and nostalgia.

The suite from Joe Hisaishi's fantastic score to the film Spirited Away lies at the heart of a programme that begins with Modest Mussorgsky's Song's and Dances of Death scaled up from it's original piano accompaniment to the orchestra and sung by powerhouse baritone Aleksi Koponen. We finish with Richard Strauss heartbreakingly beautiful Four Last Songs sung by the wonderful Corinne Hart.

Named for the street on which founder-conductor Callum Hüseyin's grandparents lived on in Penicuik just outside of Edinburgh, in honour of their support and encouragement to him and in memory of shared listening together, the Cruachan Court Orchestra was started in 2024 as a place to bring together professional musicians in Scotland.

The orchestra does not receive grants, and runs on its own ticket sales as well as generous private contributions. We do this to remain self-sufficient: too many great ensembles have folded or downsized after a relied-upon public grant did not appear, and we don't want to risk that!
