Edward Elgar - Serenade for Strings Max Bruch - Scottish Fantasy Felix Mendelssohn - Symphony No. 3 ‘Scottish’
Euan Shields conductor Ning Feng violin The Hallé
Mendelssohn’s atmospheric depiction of the dramatic Scottish landscape is tonight complimented by Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy – a violin concerto in all but name, that takes traditional Scottish folk tunes as its starting point. Elgar's Serenade provides a very English contrast to the more robust Scottish-influenced pieces; think rolling fields, wildflowers and haystacks rather than craggy mountainsides.
