Viva Cuba With Dj Javier And Rene Alvarez Band

Notting Hill Arts Club presents a night of traditional and contemporary Cuban music with performances from the Rene Alvarez Band and DJ Javier.

Rene's band will play authentic Cuban son, the intoxicating fusion of Spanish and African rhythms that gave rise to salsa. The band features a contingent of young Cuban musicians who are all passionate about maintaining their heritage and the traditions of the genre, continuing the Buena Vista legacy that put Cuban music back on the map in 1997. They also give this irresistible music a contemporary edge, bringing their audiences a truly sensational, authentically Latin music experience.

Javier came to the UK 16 years ago from Havana Cuba, where he worked at the Castillito Cultural Centre. He has been DJ-ing around the UK since his arrival, playing Salsa, Timba Cubana, Reggaeton, latin Hip-Hop and R & B to move the dancefloor. He has been voted Best Cuban DJ’ in the UK at Cuba UK’s International Cuban Salsa Congress in November 2006 and is widely regarded as the top DJ for Cuban music in London.
