Stylish vocals from a seasoned, critically acclaimed professional
Born when her Canadian parents were in England, her father directing a Liverpool theatrical company, Katya Gorrie [https://open.spotify.com/artist/3NSY7fsGRBmOPfzVROBO4A] was raised in Canada, studying dance at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and from the age of 10 toured she with her parents' theatre company. Encouraged by her mother - a singer, dancer and poet, she studied classical music at Royal Conservatory of Music before taking a jazz course at Capilano College, Vancouver. Katya's influences range from pop, to rock and jazz, folk and classical: she tells us “I love anything with great melody and rhythm!" In the mid 2000s, Katya lived and worked in the UK where her live and recorded performances have been critically acclaimed including the exceptional jazz albums Tales Of Misbehaviour. She has toured with numerous ensembles and most recently her project ‘Moscow Drug Company’ has been praised for its mix of styles and virtuosity. For this evening’s gig Katya will team up with the excellent guitarist Andy Bowen, saxophonist Dom Franks and bassist Paul Jefferies.
