2024-5 Season - Concert 3: Mahler Symphony No. 6

Details

Gustav Mahler Symphony No. 6

City of Cambridge Symphony Orchestra Conductor: Robert Hodge Supported Charity: Rotary Club

Nicknamed the ‘Tragic’ symphony (not by Mahler) although composed at a very happy time in the composer’s life, Mahler’s Symphony no. 6 is outwardly conventional in symphonic terms: Allegro, Andante, Scherzo and Finale. There convention ends and Mahler begins, using his extraordinary powers of invention and vast forces of strings, winds, brass, harps (plural) and percussion, including celeste, bells, cowbells, and ‘Mahler hammer’! A concert not to be missed for Mahler afficionados and symphony lovers alike.
