Warfare has always been part of human history but will we ever learn from its horrors?

Historian Richard Overy's latest book 'Rain of Ruin: Tokyo, Hiroshima and the Surrender of Japan' and 2024's 'Why War?' both look at how the willingness to kill civilians and destroy cities becomes normalised during a conflict.

He will be joined by bestselling novelist and non-fiction writer Pankaj Mishra, author of novels such as 'The Romantics' and 'Run and Hide'. His non-fiction book 'The World After Gaza' looks at the moral ramifications of the war in Gaza and examines what it means to be human when the world's balance of power is shifting.
