From Greek and Roman sculptors, through the Renaissance Masters and up to contemporary abstract and expressionist painters, working from life has always been a key part of art. Studying the human form helps our understanding of proportion, weight and balance. It teaches us to observe the relationships between light and shade, structure and shape key essentials for creating art in any media and any style.
This life workshop is suitable for beginners and improvers who would like to explore a variety of approaches to drawing the figure, using charcoal and other drawing media to translate the shapes, tones and form of the human body onto paper.
Tuition and guidance will be given by experienced North Yorkshire art tutor/artist Laraine Simpson who has enjoyed teaching life drawing for many years helping both beginners and professional artists.
Working with an experienced life model the workshop will include: Introduction to basic proportions of the human figure Demonstration of visual measuring techniques that are useful in creating figure drawings. Experimenting with a number of techniques/approaches to develop figure drawings e.g. quick gestural drawings through to longer, more considered drawings.
Some drawing media and paper will be provided, but do bring along any of your own drawing materials you would like to explore with help from the tutor.
