Details

The repertoire for tonight’s end of year concert covers a wide range of jazz from New Orleans , through Swing to Bebop . The arrangements have tightly crafted ensemble passages but always include plenty of space to let the world-class improvisers in the sextet off the leash.

Pete Horsfall on trumpet plays with all the energy, verve and assurance of a Kansas City veteran and he is joined on the front line by one of the finest jazz trombonists and arrangers in the world: Mark Nightingale. John Pearce on piano has long been the first choice of Scott Hamilton when he visits these shores and Jeremy Brown has established himself at the forefront of the new breed of double bass players who have peerless intonation, innate swing and an ability to invent beautiful solos. Mark Taylor is simply one of the most driving yet sympathetic drummers around.

Expect an exciting evening of straight ahead jazz, peppered as usual, by Alan’s humorous anecdotes!
