An August Epiphany A Play by Iain Frazer Set in the 1930's period of austerity the play focuses on the probable reasons for Johnny Fulton's torment He has survived the great war and the Irish war of Independence and seeks refuge in drink which also relieves the unhappiness of his marriage to Mary. An old acquaintance of both Johnny and Mary arrives unexpectedly to offer Johnny an opportunity to augment his meagre wages. The malign atmosphere of the marriage relationship is relieved weekly by the arrival of the insurance collector.Mary's enforced poverty is highlighted by the surprise visit of her employer, an affluent middle class lady of leisure. Johnny, a convinced atheist is confronted by the new parish curate on house calls to his congregation. In an unwelcoming attempt to exorcise Johnny's demons through confession, he unwittingly discovers a dark secret.
