Beethoven Violin Concerto in D, Op. 61 Mozart Symphony no. 41 Jupiter
We launch the London Firebird Orchestra’s 2024/25 season with a programme of two great classical masterpieces. Beethoven’s mighty Violin Concerto was heralded by Joseph Joachim as the German’s greatest. Mozart’s feisty final symphony, Jupiter never fails to dazzle.
The composer Gerber describes it as: ‘ …overpoweringly great, fiery, artistic, pathetic, sublime,… we would already have to perceive Mozart as one of the first geniuses of modern times and the century just past’
Interestingly, The Times published an advertisement for a performance in the Hanover Square rooms (which were just around the corner from St George’s!) on Friday 9 May 1817 featuring ‘Grand Sinfonie (Jupiter), of Mozart’.
We are delighted to have with us for the first time the multi-award-winning, French violinist Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux. Charlotte joins us fresh from concertos with the CBSO and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and recitals at the Wigmore Hall. Our very own George Jackson conducts this thrilling season-opener, which is not to be missed.
