Details

A guided walk around Belper to learn more about how the area contributed to the WWII war effort.

A 3.5-mile guided walk around the former historic mill town of Belper, telling the story of the important but very secret contributions the town made to WWII. The walk tells the story of how the town became home to one of the most important companies of the war, and how their presence in the town was kept so secret that even most of the locals had no idea of what was going off right under their noses. It also highlights the other important war work that took place in the town, and the incredible untold story of how the 'Red Box' saved the town from German bombs.

This walk is available most Tuesdays and Thursdays year-round, plus selected weekends, and is led by a local guide with over 35 years experience of leading history-themed walks in the area. Due to limited numbers, online pre-booking is essential. Private group bookings are also available on other dates - please enquire for availability and prices.
