Details

A year after his triumphant 1938 debut at Carnegie Hall, The King of Swing Benny Goodman returned to challenge the new kid on the block, Glenn Miller. The result was one of the most exciting nights in swing music’s history.

Who won the match? Come and decide for yourself!

Pete Long’s superb band presents a re-creation of this historic Battle of the Big Bands featuring Sing Sing Sing, Bach Goes To Town, In the Mood and Miller’s first million-seller, Little Brown Jug.

Our evening also includes music from two other great Carnegie Hall concerts of 1939: Louis Armstrong’s debut and John Hammond’s From Spirituals to Swing which featured music from the Count Basie Orchestra and Lester Young’s Kansas City Six.
