Details
The King’s Regiment has a long history dating back to 1685 and has been connected to the Liverpool area since 1881. By far the biggest story for the Regiment is the First World War period. With over 100,000 men, the King’s Liverpool Regiment was one of the largest regiments to take part in the War and saw action in most of the major battles. One particular series of battles in the fight for the Somme was located at the village of Guillemont. Lasting 6 weeks, the battle moved the allied line forward less than 3000 yards; the impact of the battle was catastrophic on the people of Liverpool and the surrounding area.
