Burgess Hill Choral Society Concert

Get into the Christmas spirit at Burgess Hill Choral Society’s forthcoming concert when we shall be performing Saint-Saëns’ moving Christmas Oratorio and Chilcott’s celebratory On Christmas Night. The event includes professional soloists and the choir will be accompanied by South Downs Sinfonia who will also be playing Corelli’s Christmas Concerto. In addition, there will be carols for choir and audience.

In On Christmas Night, Chilcott presents a sequence of eight original carols in which he incorporates traditional melodies within his own settings which results in a work of many moods ranging from reflective to jubilant. He also uses lots of different musical styles, from jazz to folk music.

Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio is widely loved for its simple lyrical beauty; it is a work which includes drama as well as gentle passages and leaves listeners with a sense of joy.
