The decade heralded the arrival of bands that are now household names: The Beatles, Rolling Stones,The Kinks and The Animals raised energy levels from airing 1964, followed closely by The Who, Spencer Davis Group and the Small Faces.

They were the vanguard of the British Invasion but the US had their own high energy acts too, with Jerry Lee Lewis and Chukh Berry turning up the heat.
