Stuart Henderson Quintet with Karen Sharp
Carshalton Jazz is thrilled to be bringing Stuart Henderson and Karen Sharp's 'Partners in time' project to the Cryer. They will be celebrating the music of the great historic trumpet/saxophone partnerships in jazz, like Miles Davis/John Coltrane, Chet Baker/ Gerry Mulligan and Lee Morgan/Joe Henderson, backed up by Pete Billington (pno), Paul Jefferies (bass) and Simon Price (drums).
Pete has played with such luminaries as Art Themen and Alan Barnes, Simon was trained by Kenny Clare and Paul is well-known for the small-scale gigs he does with his wife as the Little Live Music Company. They make a dynamic and experienced rhythm section. Stuart did a fantastic gig for us last year, fully justifying the critics' description of his trumpet playing as 'inventive', 'swinging' and 'storming'. Karen is well known as the 'first lady of jazz' having played saxophone with every band worth mentioning - Humphrey Lyttleton, John Dankworth, Guy Barker and more - as well as in smaller groups.
She was voted Best Tenor Sax player in the 2019 British Jazz Awards.
To hear these two great players, with such a great rhythm section, is bound to be exciting so be sure to book your tickets!!
