Details

'Mikail Tafari, known as Congo Natty, Rebel MC, and other aliases, believes his story reflects the journey of his ancestors, the children of slaves. Growing up in Tottenham with a Jamaican father and Welsh mother, he encountered race for the first time in school. Music was a constant in his life, leading him to DJ at age ten and eventually start his soundsystem, Beat Freak. His passion for recording led to collaborations with Double Trouble, resulting in hits like "Just Keep Rockin'" and "Street Tuff." As Rebel MC, he transitioned from mainstream success to pioneering Jungle music, blending reggae with breakbeats. Embracing Rastafari in 1994 profoundly changed his life and music. Tafari's journey took him to Ethiopia but brought him back to the UK, culminating in the album "Jungle Revolution," which he sees as a continuation of the African slave narrative, now a universal story of modern-day slavery and resistance.'
