James Russell is an art historian and curator specialising in Modern and Contemporary art and design.

His recent exhibitions include Seafaring (Hastings Contemporary, 2022), Extraordinary Everyday: The Art & Design of Eric Ravilious (Arc Winchester, 2022) Reflection: British Art in an Age of Change (Ferens Art Gallery, 2019-20), Edward Bawden at Dulwich Picture Gallery and In Relation: 9 Couples who Transformed Modern British Art at RWA Bristol (both 2018), Ravilious (Dulwich 2015) and Peggy Angus: Designer, Teacher, Painter (Towner, 2014, co-curator with Sara Cooper).
