DAVID LOWEfirst played the 'New Vic' Wurlitzer in its original home, the Gaumont theatre in Bradford, in the 1960s and has continued association with the organ as a regular visitor to the New Victoria Centre - not only as organist, but he also tunes the organ for us!
As part of the Royal College of Organists' 'Play the Organ Year 2025' , David will be running a 'Play the Organ' event on the previous day (Saturday 4th October) when anyone can come and try their hand at playing the Wurlitzer (whatever their experience!) and then this concert will feature explanations of how the music is interpreted on the theatre organ and how some of the registrations (combination of stops) are derived to get particular sounds + of course, lots of music too!
The NETOA Wurlitzer is one of the largest and most versatile instruments of its type in Europe and has been extensively restored with the aid of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Expect a wide variety of music - old and new, popular and classical.
Tea, coffee, soft drinks and ice cream available at the interval.
