Erica and The Wildebeest

Aurovine Live in association with The Bloomsburys in Biddenden, Ashford, Kent, are proud to bring to the stage, South African born singer songwriter Erica Steenkamp. Known as Erica and The Wildebeest, Erica has recentIy broken into the London gig scene with originaI songs that are unique and have immediate melodic appeaI. She pIays in her own styIe of open tuning, accompanying herseIf on a rhythm bass guitar, that gives her music a defining energy and depth of sound. Audiences have compared her to Susan Vega with a hint of Joni MitcheI.

She has teamed up with guitarist Christopher NewIand to form the band ‘Erica and the WiIdebeest’, a name that connects her to her African roots.

Christopher NewIand is a veteran guitarist who has worked with, amongst others, Caribbean Soca star Arrow (his massive hit ‘Hot Hot Hot’), funk and souI jazz giant Maceo Parker, Sister SIedge, Oddyssey, Mick Ronson and FeIix PappaIardi. Christopher brings the breadth his Iife-Iong guitar pIaying experience to Erica’s songs. EIements of bIues, jazz and foIk stirred into the arrangements, make their music undefinabIe, yet easiIy accessibIe to the Iistener.
