Eva-Maria Houben & GBSR Duo: together on the way

together on the way is dedicated specifically to the GBSR Duo of percussionist George Barton and pianist Siwan Rhys, who are performing alongside its composer. Houben’s composition is an environment – a temporal landscape whose vista slowly opens, and gently returns to darkness and silence. The organ slowly builds and deconstructs a giant chord; piano and percussion repeatedly enter together with passages that sometimes appear isolated, at others connected. Their music is in dialogue with the organ-coloured silences that surround them – sometimes they may appear to be framed by the silences; at other times their music is itself the frame for consideration of the drone-tinged air. This performance is part of SoundState festival.
