Details

Evita is a world-renowned musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice. It tells the story of Argentine political leader Eva Perón, the second wife of Argentine president Juan Perón. We follow Evita through her early life, her rise to power, her charity work and subsequent early death, as seen through the eyes of the cynical narrator, 'Che', an 'everyman' of the people.

The musical opened in London's West End in 1978, starring Elaine Paige and David Essex, winning the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical, and on Broadway a year later, where it was the first British musical to receive the Tony Award for Best Musical.
