Two of London’s leading choirs – Highgate Choral Society and The London Chorus – combine forces with acclaimed soloists Roderick Williams and Lucy Crowe and the New London Orchestra, conducted by Ronald Corp OBE, to celebrate music by composers whose anniversaries fall in 2024.
It’s 100 years since the death of French composer Gabriel Fauré, and they will be singing his Requiem, the best-known and loved of his large works.
The choirs will also perform the world premiere of Phoenix from the Ashes – a cantata for suffering children by British composer Ronald Corp, in recognition of his 40 years as musical director of HCS. The cantata bears witness to the suffering of children and the possibility of individual recovery and renewal.
The concert will also celebrate the 150th anniversary of Gustav Holst’s birth with a performance of A Somerset Rhapsody, an orchestral piece dedicated to folk song collector Cecil Sharp.
