Folk at the Chapel present - Blue John & Auka
"In the glow of a headlamp, creeks of yellow lap against the inky surface of the stone. It’s familiar but feels like a discovery.
Blue John Blue John take their name from the rare mineral mined near their hometown. With a shared love for the dreamlike melancholy of Ben Howard, Mogwai and Radiohead, they create earthy folk rock with hazy textures and mellow vocals. With recurring attention from BBC Introducing, alongside shows up North including a sold-out headliner at Sidney & Matilda to launch their debut EP, Blue John keep a firm foot on writing new music and are steadily carving out their sound.
Auka Inspired by the melodies and rhythms of the natural world, Auka perform genre-defying original music on Irish flute & whistles, acoustic guitar and double bass. Autumn 2023 saw the release of their second album, Wild Waters, a musical portrait of a river which ebbs and flows from moments of delicate calm to those of frenetic energy.
