The inspiration of AIR

Part of Fiori Musicali’s summer series 2024 - Elemental Music Fire, Water, Air and Earth

2024 is the 250th anniversary of Priestley’s discovery of oxygen – the breath of life on earth. This significant anniversary inspires Fiori to create four programmes built around the ancient elements of Fire, Earth, Air and Water, as we reflect on the vital necessity of sustaining our beautiful world.

From the gentle breath of the spirit to the violent winds stilled by Handel in Silete Venti , from the power of the human voice to the wooden pipes of the chamber organ, Fiori explore to potency and potential of Air . We include rare music by Isabella Leonarda to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption in this magnificent church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, as well as Telemann’s humorous rendition of the buffoonery of Don Quixote, tilting at windmills.
