Details

The Great Great Grandson of Charles Dickens, Gerald Dickens returns to The Albert Hall in 2024, as part of the Llandrindod Wells Victorian Festival. This year, Gerald will perform 2 of his Great Great Grandfather's works, 'Dr Marigold', and 'The Signalman'.

Half of the evening will tell the chilling story of a lonely Signalman set in a dismal railway. The signal box, the tunnel, even the telegraph wires seem to haunt him at every turn and Gerald’s performance reflects the brooding, Gothic nature of the tale. The other half is a depiction of one of Charles Dickens’ most popular readings: Doctor Marigold. A market ‘cheap jack’, this trader, with his rapid sales-patter, tells a story both moving and heartbreaking. We follow the relationship of Marigold and his beloved adopted orphan Sophy as he attempts to amend his past paternal hardships.

A professional actor, director and producer, Gerald has always been fascinated by the life and works of his ancestor and this has led him to write and direct many one-man shows including A Christmas Carol and Nicholas Nickleby.

This event is presented jointly by The Llandrindod Wells Victorian Festival, and The Albert Hall, with all profits being split equally.
