A Glimpse into History

Built around 1830, Vale House was originally a private family residence, home to Charles Holland, a notable Liverpool businessman and Wirral justice of the peace. Holland’s love for travel inspired him to collect exotic plants and trees, which his gardeners meticulously cultivated. These botanical treasures became key features of the lush landscape now known as Vale Park.

The park’s first Head Gardener, William Grinsell Burston, was a celebrated botanist and horticulturist whose expertise shaped the intricate flowerbeds, pathways, and overall layout admired to this day. His dedication to the estate remained unwavering until his passing in 1918. Over time, Vale House transitioned from a private residence to a cherished community hub. Now a Grade II listed building, it preserves its rich history while serving as a focal point for visitors to Vale Park.
