GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS by David Mamet 19 - 26 OCT 2024 Main Stage

This 'scalding comedy' took Broadway and London by storm. Set in America in the 1980s, a time before mobile phones and computers, here is Mamet at his very best, writing about small-time, cutthroat real estate salesmen trying to grind out a living by pushing plots of land on reluctant buyers, in a never-ending scramble for their share of the American dream. Characteristic of David Mamet’s highly individual ear for American colloquialism at its most creatively and colourfully obscene, is Glengarry Glen Ross. As you meet the men of Mitch & Murray Real Estate, you wonder what will they do to get the sales? Lie… Cheat… Steal? Mamet's finely tuned, uncompromising situational comedy reveals all… Mamet wrote the play in 1983 and sent it to his mentor, Harold Pinter, saying he didn’t know how to bring it to a satisfactory end. “It’s perfect, stage it,” Pinter replied, and it was put on in London at the National Theatre with a British cast before having its Broadway premiere the following year, when it received the Pulitzer prize. This amateur production of "Glengarry Glen Ross" is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.com
