Award-winning violinist and BBC broadcaster Seonaid Aitken pays tribute to her French Jazz violin hero Stéphane Grappelli. Specialising in Gypsy Jazz, Seonaid is a regular tutor at the Grappelli-Django Camp in The Netherlands and performs extensively with her Scottish Jazz Award-winning band Rose Room. She has also been a guest with the Tim Kliphuis Sextet, Tokyo Django Collective, Swing 2024 and world-class jazz fingerstyle virtuoso - and former Grappelli guitarist - Martin Taylor MBE. The ‘sizzling violinist' and her piano quintet, made up of some of Scotland’s top players, will celebrate Grappelli’s 60+ year career with swingin’ tunes from his solo repertoire such as ‘Sweet Georgia Brown’, ‘Ol’ Man River’ and ‘It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)’ and will include material from his Quintette du Hot Club de France days and legendary duets with Classical violin virtuoso Yehudi Menuhin.
