Details

Kenneth Wilson straps his cello to the back of a fifty-year-old Dawes Galaxy bike, and cycles from Hadrian’s Wall to Rome, performing every day en route. In the Highway Cello show, he reads some dramatic excerpts from the book he wrote about it, plays some of the music, and tells the story. Come and enjoy the ride! The Highway Cello began when, in the summer of 2022, Kenneth Wilson cycled from Hadrian’s Wall to Rome (“from the edge of Empire to its heart”). He built a rack for the back of his old Dawes Galaxy bike, strapped his carbon fibre cello to it and set off. Cycling the length of England, through France and over the Alps to Italy, Kenneth played the cello every day – in scheduled and pop-up concerts, busking and responding to the moment. Kenneth lives at the foot of Hartside pass, at Ravenbridge Mill, Cumbria. Running time (approx): 110 mins (inc interval)Suitable for 12+. (All children must be accompanied by an adult) Event Details
