Launching this June, Bethnal Green’s much loved community arts centre Oxford House will mark its 140th anniversary with History House 140, a weekend festival of special events and a 6 month-long exhibition celebrating the East End’s extraordinary history.

The events also mark the culmination of a two-year National Lottery Heritage Fund project ‘Through the Lens’, which has been exploring Oxford House’s rich heritage as the first Settlement House in the UK through cataloguing and digitising its unique archive of over 10,000 images, documents and images for the very first time.

The History House 140 Weekender festival paid for events have been submitted separately.

Visit History House 140 (6 Jun - 20 Dec) at Oxford House in Bethnal Green for its brand-new exhibition exploring 140 years of social history in East London. From young Victorian social reformers tackling the great challenges of their day, to courageous nights spent in air-raid shelters, and captivating stories of 1970s working-class activism – History House will take you on a journey through 140 years of social change in the East End. This interactive exhibition, which marks Oxford House's 140th anniversary, features unseen material from its newly digitised archive of 10,000 objects highlighting the diversity, energy and ideas of the East End and its extraordinary communities.
