Verdi’s opera of obsession and superstition returns to the Royal Opera House in a production that lights up the stage with ‘anarchic imagination’ (Guardian), combining Hieronymus Bosch-inspired mayhem and medieval lore.

Troubadour Manrico and the jealous Count di Luna fervently vie for Leonora’s heart. Meanwhile, Manrico’s mother Azucena, haunted by the death of her mother at the hands of the Di Luna family many years earlier, reveals a truth that will soon devastate all.

Il trovatore is probably best known for the 'Anvil Chorus', but features a host of thrilling arias, ensembles and chorus numbers.
